The next generation of building Swing Applications

A lot of you (including me) have forgotten about Swing, ever since Web 2.0 has taken precedence over rich clients. However, good is coming back! I was browsing through the Java 7 features the other day and came across Swing Application Framework. It brings in the best of the breed concepts of Web and Desktop programming model into building Swing apps — the final code looks much simpler without any cluttered generated sourcecode (by those ugly drag and drop tools)

And with Java 6 & 7 massive improvements with a new algorithm for Garbage Collection called G1, I’m sure it’s going to bring in a new wave of Java Desktop apps.

Take a look at the presentation for SAF to see some of it’s exciting features.
